The main building dates from the mid-18th century and is set out largely in its original residential layout, with generous-sized rooms, having good natural light and with high ceilings.
This is where the main reception is located and where all visitors arrive. Tenants’ post is placed in individual trays in an antique cupboard. The Old Chambers meeting room adjoins the reception area. The two strongrooms, with giant doors over 6” thick are a real feature.
The Cottage, up to relatively recent times was kept as residential accommodation for the husband and wife team who looked after the buildings and the legal partners and staff. Their duties included keeping the coal fires in every office burning through the cold winter days.
Now the cottage is a fully separate building providing 5 modest-sized offices with its own kitchen and WC’s. It’s a quieter, more contemplative area, away from the buzz of busy West Street.
